An Interesting Profile

Hi Guys,

I am sure you have read many profiles on AFA. Sometimes they are interesting. Other times they are only a sentence or two. I thought you might enjoy reading this one from Yulia. She lives in West Ukraine near the Polish border with her 5 year old son. Enjoy.

Also Secretary of State, John Kerry will visit Kiev next week.

Self Description: I am perfect in English and good in German, know why? I was lucky to have an interesting job at best cruise ship “Thomson Spirit”, Luis Cruise Lines, I am sure you heard of it, as you can imagine I met many interesting people who enjoyed life and got pleasure from sea cruise, some people were rich, some were middle-class people who have been saving money for several years to enjoy this voyage, I even met newlyweds who have won several thousand dollars at a casino in Las Vegas and decided to continue their honeymoon) In general, every person on this cruise ship had own life story, and only the love to travels and voyages united them into one group, I can honestly say that sometimes I dreamed of being a passenger and also enjoy this “holiday of life”, you know what was the best thing at Thompson Spirit when I worked there? Love, yes, yes, yes, love! There was not one single man or women out there, just happy couples! 535 cabins and all are happy couples, can you imag! ine that?)) Or maybe I just noticed happy people and did not see people who were not happy there?) And I looked at them with a smile, I knew that one day I also going to meet my one and only man, and we will be happy together, and it is does not matter if we’re on a cruise ship or just walking in the park, love makes us feel special , not place. So, I met many people of different nationalities and I realized one important thing, there is no difference between happy people… happy American, Russian or European has no difference! If we are happy and loved, our nationality is the last thing people will notice about us, agree?) Life goes on, now I am a teacher of English language, it passed a lot of time from the times I was working at Thompson Spirit and now I have a child who need me at home, so I have chosen a decent job for me, I like being teacher and I could do my job in any country, I could teach English or Russian language. I can move from Ukraine, yes, I really can do that, but if I meet a man who wants to stay in Ukraine, that would be good for me too. As I said before, LOVE, not place, make us feel special. So, how did I get to this site? Recently I watched the TV show “Let’s get married”, I am sure there are the analogues of this TV show is in any country, and I was just surprised to see there my former colleague, Elena! Yes, she was looking for a husband there, and that show helped her to meet a man at that TV show, and I hope they are happy together, I can not get through to her, maybe she has a honeymoon and can not answer the calls or moved from Ukraine already, but anyway, I hope ! she is happy !)) In general, maybe it was a sign from God to me … before that day I met Elena at TV show, I was a little embarrassed to join a dating site, but after her story I rethought my little attitude to that, and now I’m here! mmm They say I have to tell in this field of the questioner how good I am)) So, I try) I am a good woman as I see myself, I am happy with myself and my own abilities. I appreciates who I am as an individual, and I am proud to be a woman. I am straight forward and respectful about setting boundaries and the tempo of my relationships early on. I know it’s OK to feel down, bummed out, or really shitty that one week out of the month, but more importantly I know how to weather the storm correctly. Whether personally or professionally, I have great goals and desires. I know that with the right amount of inspiration and motivation anything is possible, and is willing to do what it takes to make my dreams a reality. I am comfortable in my own skin. Jea! lousy, doubt, and fear go out the window because I am confiden! t in myself and my choice in a partner. So, I tried to tell as much as I could, I do respect the time of my future man, and I am sure when he finds me and reads these lines, he will contact me, we never know before we try, so, I am open to dialogue and just guaranteed to be open, sincere and respectful and would be good if you treat me the same.

Comments: I do not need a man in my life to be happy, but if I have one I stand by him. I believe in his purpose and who he is, I just pray to meet a man who will not be aggressive as most of Slavic men when they had some alcohol, I hope to meet a man who likes simple things as walking in the park before sleep or just watching TV and having some snacks together, if we work hard together and save some money for trips, would be great to visit some interesting places, it is refreshing for feelings I guess. I need a man who never hit or demeans woman, I would be happy to meet a man who is not a “vegetable” on the couch, would be great if he has some goals in life, and you know, it would make me really happy if he is handy! It is really a big luck to meet a handy man in modern world))

A Great Testimonial Ending in Marriage

Hi guys,

I have something special for you today. I received a letter from a guy I led on tour two years ago. This was Kiev-Poltava. To protect his privacy, we will call him Clark.

Clark is a great guy and we have stayed in touch. There is much to learn from his experience with AFA. Clark is not from a large city and is more comfortable in a smaller town. He was persistent. Every guy that goes on tour approaches the experience in different ways. Here are some points about his experience that you should consider:

1.       He did not write letters before going. Although there is nothing wrong with this approach.

2.       His expectations were well focused. When things did not work out for him in Kiev (a very large city), he simply waited to travel to Poltava.

3.       When the social did not work for him, he simply viewed the books and asked for help from the staff.

4.       Even after doing so, he did not give up.

5.       At the eleventh hour, he found his special someone, who is now his wife!

So what are the lessons for you? Absolutely nothing will happen unless you make the decision to get on a plane and go to the country of your choice.

Never give up!  Persistence is the key. AFA offers great service and wants you to succeed, but you are responsible for your own happiness. Here is his testimonial. You would do well to pay attention. You can attend the same tour that Clark did on February 26. By the way, the ” Visajourney.Com” site is very valuable.

I wish you the best.

My experience with AFF was interesting and eye opening. I recommend everybody try it once. We started in Kiev with a social, but I didn’t really meet anyone that I was interested in. Then we went to Poltava! What a world of difference! The social was much nicer and the women were genuine in looking for love.

The most important thing to remember, is don’t give up. I met several women at the social, but they didn’t pan out for various reasons. For the next 2 days I went through the books looking, but everyone I was interested in, was working or out of town. On the last night of our stay, I again went looking in the profile books and came across one that interested me. The office girls contacted her and we met. Within 5 minutes, we felt like we had known each other for years. 3 hours later, my heart was won.

It took about a year to get everything together with the K1 visa. I prepared the paperwork myself, frequently referring to the web site” Visajourney.Com”, (it is a web community with many examples of the forms and blogs where you can ask people questions about the paperwork).  In October 2013 my Julia arrived. We married in November and today we continue to be happy.

Best wishes,

Understanding Ukraine and AFA Tours

Understanding Ukraine and AFA Tours

Hi Guys,

I often hear confusion about Ukraine on Bud Patterson’s Monday night calls (which you should listen to) and when I speak to potential clients. So I thought that it would be useful to provide some details for you.

AFA has been conducting tours to Ukraine for many years. I have never heard of any problem for participants. On the contrary, I know of several successful marriages as a result of men taking the initiative to travel.

Ukraine is the largest country in Europe, about the size of Texas. It has a population of over 45 million. What is interesting is that the women outnumber the men significantly as opposed to America where there are more men. As evidence AFA offers over 13,000 profiles in Ukraine, the largest in the world by far.

But on to the geography. Like many countries in the world, Ukraine uses the metric system. A mile is .62 of a kilometer. For our purposes, I will express distance in miles.

We all know that there is very unfortunate trouble in Ukraine. This is limited to a region known as the Donbas Oblast, or state. This includes the cities of Donetsk, Lugansk and Mariupol among others with a population of about 4 million.

In the past, AFA has led tours to this area, but due to the current conflicts, obviously it is avoided.

Here is what you should understand. I have been to Ukraine 5 times recently and just returned on January 20. In all that time, I saw absolutely no indication of any trouble.

So, here are some facts that may put your mind at ease as you consider the 2015 AFA schedule.

The distance between Kiev and Donetsk is 430 miles. From Odessa it is 455 miles. For your reference, the distance between Dallas and Houston is 245 miles. Between Pittsburgh and Detroit it is 300 miles. Between Los Angeles and San Francisco it is 380 miles.

The bottom line is that in spite of what is shown by the media, AFA tours are completely safe. AFA maintains four offices in Kiev, Poltava, Odessa and Nikolayev. In addition they have close relationships with dozens of trusted affiliates. The staff in Phoenix is in constant contact with the Ukraine as tours are planned.

You would do well to access a map of this wonderful country to increase your understanding.

Now that you have read this post, the only factors preventing you from going on tour and perhaps finding that special someone are time and finances. Please do not let lack of will stand in your way as too many do.

I wish you the best as always.

Brown Penny – A Poem by William Butler Yeats

Hi Guys,

I know the age reference may not apply, but pay attention to the closing thoughts.

I WHISPERED, ‘I am too young,’
And then, ‘I am old enough';
Wherefore I threw a penny
To find out if I might love.
‘Go and love, go and love, young man,
If the lady be young and fair.’
Ah, penny, brown penny, brown penny,
I am looped in the loops of her hair.
O love is the crooked thing,
There is nobody wise enough
To find out all that is in it,
For he would be thinking of love
Till the stars had run away
And the shadows eaten the moon.
Ah, penny, brown penny, brown penny,
One cannot begin it too soon.

The AFA Ukraine Tour in February

The AFA Ukraine Tour in February

Hi Guys,

I have a great suggestion for you, especially those of you who have never been to the Ukraine. Often times I hear guys confused about which city to go to. Well, the real answer is that they are all great in their own way, and of course different.

Understand that Ukraine is the largest European country – the size of Texas with a population of over 40 million. AFA offers more than 14,000 profiles, the largest in the world out of over 40,000.

So how to choose? You must understand that there are beautiful, sincere ladies in every city and more are added every week. Your future bride could reside anywhere.

My idea, if you can arrange it, would be to consider the February 26 tour to Kiev and Poltava. There are many reasons for this.

  1. The tour is brief. It is only 10 days and 9 nights. This would be helpful if time is a consideration for you.
  2. The cost is reasonable. Other than your airfare, meals and dating expense, it is only $3195. This would include two great socials, your hotel and transportation and the use of great AFA staffs.
  3. Each of these cities is very different. Kiev is the capital with a population of over 3 million. It is a bustling European style city with much to offer. The Hotel Rus is great and one of my favorites. While Poltava is a charming smaller town with 300,000. It will remind you of a New England college town. The Hotel Palazzo is delightful.
  4. Airfare has never been more reasonable. Check this for yourself on or I just returned and my cost from JFK direct to Kiev was less than $700. Not only that, but the currency exchange rate has never been better.  It is twice what it was and likely to improve.
  5. The ratio of profiles between the two cities is very surprising. In Kiev, there are 1,700, while in Poltava there are 8500. You do the math.
  6. Since I have been tour leader on this offering, I can assure you that there may be as many as 200 ladies at both socials.
  7. There will be more than enough translators to assist you. Also, you are free to exchange contact information with any lady that you feel a connection with.
  8. You will have the benefit of many “wing men” and will make many friends among your “brothers in arms”. It is like a fraternity road trip.
  9. You will be well assisted by the tour leader and the local staffs. In both cities there are AFA offices that you are free to visit, although a staffed hospitality suite will be available in both cities.
  10. In conclusion, this is a great offering. Future tours will cost more, and who knows what the airfare and currency exchange will be. So, “carpe diem” if you can manage it. I have seen marriages occur on this tour!

Best of luck to all of you. This is the first offering to Ukraine in 2015. Take advantage if you can. You will not be sorry.

Gift Giving in Ukraine

Gift Giving in Ukraine

Hi Guys,

This can be easily misunderstood. Gift giving has a special meaning here if you find yourself in a relationship. Initially during dating it is a small issue. The choice is yours, but if there is a connection after a second or third date, do yourself a favor and try not to show up empty handed. Flowers or candy should do nicely.

Of course you need to be on guard for inappropriate expenditures. Often times this can lead to scamming . Bud Patterson in his book and on the AFA website you can read about the red flags. I won’t belabor that here, but you would do well to understand what to watch out for.

However, I have learned something I would like to share. Among families, especially during their frequent holidays, gift giving has a special meaning. It is a bit different than in America. Surprise is not a necessary factor. Family members may actually reveal what they would prefer as a gift. This is not being greedy, but it is part of their culture. A nice gift is considered a major sign of affection and respect.

How does this affect you? If you find yourself in a strong relationship and you are invited to her home for dinner, gifts for everyone will be the order of the day. Again, this is not greed, it is just good manners. Your lady should be able to help you select the right items for each family member.

Once she considers you her “boyfriend†, you may be expected to provide a measure of ongoing support leading to a more permanent relationship.

Good communication is the key.I wish you well in 2015 and hope you make a decision to seek happiness with a new life partner.

Cebu City Holds The Key to Your Life Mate Search!

Hi Guys,

If the Philippines is of interest to you, consider this recent post by AFA.

If You Resolved This Year Not to Spend Another Year Alone The January Cebu Tour May Be Just What You Need!

Believe it or not the first tour of 2015 is right around the corner, January 29th 2015. Cebu is a fantastic tour destination, we have had several marriages resulting from our tours to Cebu, who knows you may be next!

The airfare to Cebu is now at the lowest level of the year, with round trip prices starting from just $700.00. That will be the cheapest airfare of the year, if you have the chance to take advantage of it for the January tour we highly recommend it. If you need help booking the airfare just give us a call and we will be happy to assist.

Here are a few more reasons why Cebu may be the perfect destination for you:

1. Tens of thousands of women are searching for love there. There is no shortage of single, attractive Filipina ladies signing up to find foreign husbands. Filipina women find foreign men a promising option to make up for a shortage of local guys looking to settle down and start a family. The creation of online personals sites has led to a booming number of men traveling to Manila, Cebu and other cities to meet literally tens of thousands of potential life-mates.

2. They speak English. The one big hurdle for men to overcome while pursuing foreign women is the obvious language barrier if the girl does not speak English. How does one forge love and conduct a proper courtship where so much can be lost in translation or never translated at all? Not a problem in the Philippines – where over 90% of women speak English.

3. Filipina women have no hang-ups on age: Women of Cebu and other Philippine cities are quite open-minded regarding the age of their husbands. Age difference, in some cases may span more than a generation, though that may not be recommended. “The less life and relationship experience someone has the less reliably she may be able to make a commitment like this which not only involves marriage but relocation half way around the world.” says Bud Patterson, Vice President of A Foreign Affair, one of the world leaders in international introductions. “Obviously, we recommend guys look for someone no more than 15 years apart.”

4. Filipinos are famous for their polite, accommodating culture. Guys who have never left familiar shores will feel immediately comfortable in Cebu’s tourist-city culture. Restaurant menus are in English, shopping malls host American-themed stores, and typical touristy activities like snorkeling, island hopping, or visiting Cebu’s rich historical museums is easy, affordable and safe. There is also a well- developed community of expatriates from all over the world thriving in Cebu! “One girl even offered to help me buy my groceries!” one recent traveler reported to us.

5. Hundreds of Filipina women marry foreign men every year. As proof the process works and there is an actual tangible result to many men’s efforts, the American Embassy in Manila issues hundreds of fiancée and spousal visas each year. The process can take up to 6 months from original filing but that’s a minor sacrifice for couples planning to spend the rest of their lives together.

Cebu, and other Philippine cities such as Davao, are host to an increasing number of bride-seekers from all over the world each year. Nice guys, with traditional, family values and a healthy respect for women should consider Cebu among the best options for an exotic romantic adventure.

Hi guys,

In the spirit of looking forward to what you will do with this year, let’s consider what it takes to realize the goal we all cherish – to find that special someone and make her your wife.

Bud Patterson has said many times that less than 5 % of the guys active in AFA actually get on a plane and attempt to find her. I am sure that he is right. Why is this so? I am sure there are thousands of reasons, but a central one that I have encountered is the lack of will.

Let’s consider this more closely. Of course there are valid reasons why a potential client would not make plans in 2015 or beyond. Perhaps, they have not sufficiently informed themselves of all the factors involved. Perhaps, a guy is not sure that this is the best path for him.

Once a guy has informed himself by viewing as much of the AFA website as possible, read Bud Patterson’s excellent book and listened to his Monday night calls, he is in a position to make a decision. Of course, then there are logistical factors to consider. These are, of course, time and finances. The good news is that fare costs are down to many locations.

I will close with a bit of Robert Frost which has served me well over the years.

“Two roads diverged in a wood, and I—
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.”I wish you all the best in 2015.
